5 Incredible Sources to Find "Undocumented" Auctions
You already know about membership sites to get in on the best property auctions. You even know how to correctly decide what is the value of some of the items put up for personal auction. But do you know where to look for auctions when advertising is not real important to the auction agenda? This is a quick run down of five of the best places to go when you want to find auctions that the general public is not going to find.
A great place to check on local auctions is the auctioneer himself. You can find most auctioneers online by doing a local search for auctioneers. Some have their own websites but many do not. Then is is a simple matter of calling them and asking them what auctions they are going to be running soon. You can express respect for the auctioneer by telling him what you are looking for and why. Then from his schedule he can tell you when and where you might find what you are looking for. When you come to the auction make a point of saying hello to the auctioneer before the auction starts. He will know he recruited a new buyer to his following and he will probably give you a nod or at least look more in your direction since he brought you on board.
The local Sheriff's Dept has regular auctions to get rid of abandoned and seized property. Most Sheriffs and the deputies are your neighbors as well as peace officers. So most are approachable and can tell you when and where their next action is going to be held. Do not try to buy something "away from the auction block". Government entities are bound by law to offer for sale the property at open bid to all public.
Unclaimed Freight is another amazing source for auction treasure. Again it is simply an online search for local auctions. Do use the word "auction in your search with unclaimed freight. If you do not then you search will bring up a company incorporated as Unclaimed Freight. Every state seems to have some form of the name. By searching unclaimed freight auctions you will go directly to where you want to be.
Storage centers are where I got my bug for auctions. The $110 cash I paid for one storage unit quickly turned into $1200 because of connections I had who wanted what I found in the winnings. I know for a fact that storage centers do not usually advertise their on site auctions of storage units. They auction the contents to recover lost rental and to clear the units to get a new customer paying rental. Here it is only a matter of visiting the center and asking when they hold their auctions. Be prepared to authenticate your ID and be prepared to remove the contents directly after the auction is completed.
Recently I have learned that wholesalers also hold auctions for items that have not sold or do not sell fast enough for the wholesaler. Just be cautious that you have a way to recoup your investment if you win at the wholesale auction. Also do not get lead into a redirect of an online auction that takes you to a huge reseller online.
For a short time I used my auction finding skills to pay bills when things got tight. I will always be grateful to the American economy of supply and demand and the sweet place that auctions play in that economy. Try using one or all five of these sources to find auctions that not a lot of people know how to find.
